The worst player is BillyJean Blackwood, although Ronny Dobbs is not far behind. This game is where Dmitri Petrovich shines the most, the in-joke being that he is Russian and therefore better at hockey. The best goalie is both Marty Brodeur and Curtis Joseph with 100s, and Stephannie takes the kid spot with a 96.
The best defender is Brian Leetch with a 100, although Lisa Crockett's 95 earns her the kid's top spot. The fastest skater is Paul Kariya with a 100, and Luanne Li garners the best kid title with a 91. The best passer is also Mo at 100, with Dmitri Petrovich being the best kid with an impressive 93. The best kid shooter is Kiesha Phillips, with a 95. The best shooter is Mike "Mo" Modano, with a 100 in that regard. Unsurprisingly, the best player in this game is Pablo Sanchez with a 417 all around, although he is not the best in any specific category. For example, Dmitri Petrovich is technically best as a center, he is substantially better than most at forward. It is important to note that just because a player is best at one position does not mean that player is not better than others at other positions. The best position is based on the idea that centers are the best passers, forwards are the fastest and best shooters, defenders are the best defenders, and goalies are the best goalkeepers. This gives an analysis of a player stat's, adds them up, and gives the best position.
Unsatisfied with my findings (which amounted to a single website based on in-game ratings, which are approximations), I dug out the files myself, threw them through 7zip and VSC, and produced a spreadsheet with my results. Earlier today I picked up a copy of Backyard Hockey '02, and wanted to know the precise player ratings as listed in the game files.
